Landscape analysis of Actors in the Ecosystems field

Context
This web page is elaborated under the InCASE project - Task 3.2: Improving access to data at Pan-European level supporting EU Ecosystem assessment and accounting. In this context, the consortium agreed on the need to previously analyse the increasing number of Actors involved in the Ecosystems domain.

Ecosystem’s Actors overview
The overview provided is based on the official documentation publicly available on the Internet. We represented in a visual way the main Actors working on the Ecosystem’s topic, classified in 4 main groups: policy-making Bodies, Policies, Activities and Organizations, represented in four different colours in the diagram below.

The dark-blue-colour boxes represent the main policy-making Bodies. The cyan-colour boxes represent the main Policies, both at EU and global level. The green-colour boxes represent the main Activities, including networks, programmes, information systems, data and knowledge centres, initiatives, flagships and research projects. The yellow-colour boxes represent the main Organizations managing or centralizing the activities regarding EO in-situ data, i.e, the EEA and the GEO.

The relation between the different objects is represented by arrows and described by expressions that are self-explanatory of the type of connection that exists, including “Defined by”, “Saves in”, “Composed by”, “Contributes to”, “Funded by”, “Initiates”, “Coordinates”. The small or large size of the boxes represents the different levels of relevance among items.

This Ecosystem's Actors overview will be updated as appropriate during the course of the InCASE project.
